The ‘Taylor and Burton of Charlotte, NC Indie Rock’ Head to Studio to Record “Feathers and Wax.”

New York City, NY, February 25 — Illicitizen are set to record at Monster Island Studios. Producer/Engineer Mike Caffrey (Ryan Adams, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Chaka Khan, Coheed and Cambria, George Clinton, etc…) will take over duties recording the duo in a divergence from their usual do-everything-yourself ethos. The band hopes to record the 12 songs album in live performances in the studio that are more akin to their energized live shows.

“I got the feeling during the time I was finishing our first record, that I needed more objectivity in the role of an engineer,” says Eric Cavanaugh, the band’s front man. “We looked at several options and wanted to get out of our own back yard. Mike is concerned not only with what sounds will be captured but also what the story is behind the music and our intentions.”

Maria Illicitizen stated, “Although today’s music listener is more of an a la carte consumer I believe the concept of a ‘record’ is still important. This CD is a ‘record’ in the truest sense of the word.  It is a record not just of our artistic growth and aesthetic as a band, but of our life as a couple.”

“I truly appreciate your perspective on everything, and it comes across in your songwriting.”  Stan Cocheo Plaza Midwood Community Radio.

“…the pair swerves from cabaret-folk to arty post-punk to jangly minor chord alt-pop without losing its identity or its sense of humor…”
Courtney Devores Charlotte Observer Local Flavor

“I was very impressed with the intricate bass lines that Maria threw all over the place… she definitely holds her own during the song creating a very fine underlying mesh of sound for Eric to work with.”

Illicitizen began when Eric Cavanaugh commented on Maria’s hands and how lovely they would be holding an electric bass. The two have played hundreds of shows mixing indie rock and soul into a smear of sound from Savannah to Brooklyn and from Charleston to St Louis. The duo laughs in the face of adversity and natural disasters determined to take their faithful drum box, “Roland” onto the next date.

The Band is available for interviews and appearances. Contact Eric Cavanaugh for more information.
